Patient Safety is our top priority.
At MKDentalCare we have always prided ourselves in the quality of our cross infection control. Patients may notice things like gloves and clean sinks but there is much more to it than that.
We start with Staff Training. Not only the Nurses but the receptionists too.
Every single member of staff knows how important this issue is and the
role they
play in ensuring the highest levels of Cross Infection Control. Our staff have regular training and recently received
certificates for the Cross Infection Control Course we completed. These
certificates are n the wall in the reception.
In so far as is possible we use disposable materials. Where we re use we always autoclave.
We use a tray system for instruments which is acknowledged to be more effective that storage in draws. Every practice Inspection that we have had has remarked about the fact that we comply with the highest standards of cross infection control.
There are basic levels of cross infection control which all dentists have to conform to but many dentists go well beyond them. We believe we are in this group.
We not only train our staff but we invest as well. To ensure that we can maintain the highest standards we havetwo Autoclaves so that in the event of a breakdown we can continue to maintain the highest standards.
Both of our surgeries were specifically designed for the highest levels of Cross infection control.
The main priorities of our Cross Infection Control policy are
(a) Effective Hand washing.
(b)
Using Protective barriers.(c) Management of healthcare waste.
(d) Correct handling and disposal of needles and sharps.
(e) Cleaning and Decontamination of work surfaces.
(f) Effective cleaning, decontamination and sterilisation of equipment including hand pieces and drills.
(g) Use of appropriate disinfectants.
(h) Correct storage of sterile instruments and equipment.
(i) Appropriate use of barriers including gloves, bibs, Face masks, protective clothing and eye protection
(j) Needle stick injury policy.
(k) Maintaining dental chair unit water quality
(l) Decontamination of impressions and prosthetic appliances.
(m) Monitoring of staff immunisations and vaccinations.
(n) Maintaining a safe environment including Aspiration and Ventilation
Whenever I visit other practices the one thing I always look at is the standard of cross infection control. I never ever believe that you can say you have your cross infection control is perfect, however over and above everything else, it is the one thing we are constantly trying to improve.

David's surgery is large and bright, with the latest equipment. This surgery is always admired by dentists when they visit the surgery, as everything is close at hand, yet hidden away. Cross infection control was at the heart of our surgery planning. |

In order to comply with the highest standards of Cross Infection Control we try to reduce to the minimum, the amount of equipment on show, and keep the clinical surface clear. This facilitates cleaning and sterilisation procedures. |
